These days, German policy is clear: reintroducing conscription, limitless military spending, and talk of “readiness for war.” But resistance is also growing.
In the talk “From Militarization to Military Service — Lessons in Resistance from Israeli Civil Society,” Or, a conscientious objector and activist from the Israeli organization New Profile, reports on what we can learn from those resisting militarization, conscription, and war.
New Profile is a feminist and anti-militarist organization and a member of War Resisters International (WRI). Or herself is an Arab Jew, Israeli, and pro-Palestine activist who has been fighting for human and animal rights, against the occupation, and for a just peace for 20 years.
Afterwards, the IDK and FAU invite you to a KüFa (community kitchen) and an open meeting to discuss possibilities for resistance to militarization. The IDK (Internationale der Kriegsdienstgegner*innen), like New Profile, is a section of War Resisters International and supports and advises conscientious objectors. As a grassroots union, we want to discuss together with the IDK what resistance to military preparedness can look like, what role the labour movement plays in it, and how we can liberate ourselves collectively.
