May Day, May Day! The ongoing attacks on the labour movement and its achievements threaten our already precarious working and living conditions. That is why we, FAU Berlin, are calling for everyone to take to the streets on 1 May – together in the class-struggle block!  Those who launch attacks on the right to strike will face the consequences of class struggle. Those who question the 8-hour workday should not be surprised by collective resistance. And those who complain about the supposed “laziness” of workers will be brought back down to earth.

We are all expected to work more, preferably in the arms industry or even in the armed forces. Even sick pay during illness is being questioned by business elites and politicians. We say: The problem isn’t the sick days taken by overworked workers; rather, it’s the system that makes people sick that must be changed.

In a time of military expansion, and when vague demands for longer working hours are circulating in the media and parliaments, solidarity and a fighting spirit are more important than ever.

Only class struggle from below that transcends national borders can create real change. Our labour, which keeps capitalism running, provides us with effective means of exerting social pressure: through workplace organising and strike action! At the workplace, while receiving social benefits, in our homes, in the household, at schools and universities, on the streets, and in all areas of life, we can empower one another and stand up for our interests.

Let’s come together and wage labour action in our own way. We call on you to join us in the class-struggle block at the DGB demonstration. Take to the streets for a strong workers’ movement – on 1 May and every day!
