On July 13, 2025, the General Assembly of FAU Berlin adopted the statement below. The statement was prompted by international labour disputes in which dockworkers in France and Sweden refused to dispatch arms shipments to Israel, in the face of massive repression. On August 8, 2025, a solidarity event was held, where members and supporters discussed the significance of these labour struggles and the role of the FAUB in international resistance. The statement reflects both the organisation’s commitment to and solidarity with the workers affected.
Solidarity statement:
In early June 2025, dockworkers from the French union Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) demanded to inspect containers and refused to load arms onto ships bound for Israel (French Dockers Block Weapons to Israel ). In another case from February 2025, the Swedish Dockworkers Union has refused to process weapons shipments to and from Israel. As a result of this action the spokesperson and national deputy of the union was targeted by the state and fired (European Dockworkers Refuse to Load Weapons Aimed at Palestine | Labor Notes , Swedish Dockworker Fired Over Blockade of Israeli Weapons | Novara Media ).
Despite the backlash some of them are facing, these dockworkers are showing what it takes to build sustained resistance to war and oppression. FAUB stands in firm solidarity with our international comrades.
Blockades, strikes and walk-outs by workers are effective and disruptive means of solidarity that people offer when governments actively oppress them, cause harm or willingly ignore when their allies are causing it. FAUB does not tolerate repression against those who use their collective power to fight back against opportunistic profiteering – especially if it’s profiteering of war crimes, ethnic cleansing and genocide.
