Despite it’s benefits, the job of a personal assistant can bring a number of problems and challenges. Some only affect assistants in certain areas, while others will occur in most assignments: dependency relationships, emotional blackmail, lack of clarity about legal issues, insecurities of people who are new to the job.
In addition, assistants working under their clients personal budgets are not paid uniformly and there is no standardised employment contract. Working hours and the necessary flexibility that comes with the job are also regulated differently. The isolation in which our work takes place makes it difficult to network with colleagues and meetings with assistants often take place under the noses of employers.
We are a group of assistants who have organized at FAU Berlin to deal with these issues. The meeting is open to all interested colleagues, come along!
