Union Help Desk

In the vast majority of cases, the union help desk will offer you a one-off consultation session in German and/or English. Consultations are free of charge and available to both members of the FAU Berlin and non-members as well. They are generally held at our office on Grüntaler Straße. We can however also arrange for a phone consultation if necessary. Either way, please always book in advance! To book a slot with the union help desk, just send an email to faub-beratung@fau.org with a brief rundown of the issue at hand.

The union help desk does not provide legal counselling. Instead, we will sit down with you and try get to the bottom of your particular situation and the issues you are facing. On the basis of this, we will work with you to identify the various possible solutions, which will then serve as a starting point for you to decide what steps you want to take.

We are an anarcho-syndicalist grassroots union, and so our main aim is to help you identify opportunities for organising with other colleagues or similarly affected people in your workplace and to implement lasting changes.

While our specific knowledge and experience are always limited to the individuals involved in the respective consultation, we are always happy to put you in touch with other structures within the FAU Berlin or to point you to other advisory services. So don't hesitate to get in touch! We'll help you work out what steps to take next.

A few general notes on data protection and privacy
 
What data do we process and how?
You can get in touch with us by sending an email to faub-beratung [at] fau.org. If you do so, any personal data you send us by email will be processed and stored by the FAU Berlin Union Help Desk Working Group. We use a help desk and issue tracking software solution Zammad for this purpose. Access to this ticket system is controlled by a dedicated authorisation concept, which is reviewed on an ongoing basis. 

To schedule a consultation with the help desk, you need to send us an email. This means that the consultation can never be entirely anonymous. However, we do not require any personal data other than the email address and contact details you provide for the consultation. If you do choose to send us additional information, documents, etc., you can delete, redact, or pseudonymise all your personal data or use any other method of ensuring that we cannot read it. We will not delete or modify your data or pass it on to third parties without your consent.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The lawful basis for processing the data transmitted in your email is Art. 6 (1) f of the EU-GDPR (“processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such  interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and  freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data,  in particular where the data subject is a child.”)

Storage duration
We will delete your data as soon as you ask us to do so or when the purpose for storing your data no longer applies. This does not affect mandatory statutory provisions, in particular those governing legal retention periods.
