Berlin, 20.02.2025
The General Syndicate of FAU Berlin is demanding over €14,000 brutto from Café Superfoods for three former employees. The demands arise from unpaid wages and vacation claims. In November, Superfoods signed an out-of-court settlement to pay the demand starting from December 1st in monthly installments of €2,000 each.
Enrico S., the union secretary from FAU Berlin overseeing the conflict, states:
*”*The fact that we haven’t seen a single cent of the remaining €6,000 suggests that the management is disregarding agreements and applicable laws, not only towards our members but also towards us as a union.”
The communication from Superfoods UG’s responsible parties is seen by FAU Berlin as a stalling tactic. Alongside public pressure, the union has initiated legal steps.
Cosmo B., one of the affected members, explains:
“Our demands are not just a legal matter; they are a question of justice. All three of us are immigrants and we are tired of being ignored because we’re not German and not rich. We need the money to live. How Superfoods treats its employees must not go unchallenged.”
Croma R., another affected member in the conflict adds:
“Since all three affected colleagues are migrants who speak little German and have limited knowledge of German labor law, the company probably assumed that they wouldn’t fight long for their outstanding wages.”
FAU Berlin is calling on Superfoods to immediately pay the outstanding claims in the interest of its members. On February 23rd, FAU Berlin is organizing another demonstration at 12:30 PM in front of the café at Schlüterstraße 37 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The demonstration will provide opportunities for soundbites and interviews.
