Independent trade unions, workers’ struggles, and opposition to the government in Georgia – an evening with Georgian trade union and opposition activist Rati Ratiani
Labor disputes in Georgia have increased over the past 35 years in response to the increasingly neoliberal agenda of all previous and current governments. In the past, uprisings by workers, young people, students, and the rave community have had only limited success. Nevertheless, those involved and activists have managed to gather knowledge and experience and build structures that today support the opposition in its work.
Rati Ratiani, a long-time Georgian opposition activist, will share his views, experiences, and stories this evening. Among other things, he co-founded an independent union at Georgia’s public broadcaster, which continues to support employees and other opposition forces in their resistance to the neoliberal agenda. In 2021, he also founded the independent digital media platform https://www.mautskebeli.ge/, which gives a voice to those who would otherwise not be heard.
The conversation with Rati will be held in English.
