Solidarity with the Striking Prisoners in JVA Butzbach!

Published on Dec 02, 2015 Tags: , ,
Lacking the right to strike, prisoners in Hessian detention centre (Justizvollzugsanstalt, JVA) in Butzbach launched a hunger strike on December 1. The prisoners organise in the prisoners’ union GG/BO. Besides the hunger strike, the prisoners announced to apply a “go-slow” (“ca’ canny”) in the JVA’s enterprises in order to highlight the union related demands of the Prisoners’ Representation (Interessenvertretung der Gefangenen, IVdG) and the GG/BO. FAU Berlin supports the demands of the imprisoned workers in Butzbach: union liberty, minimum wage, pension scheme and an end to the constraint to work!

In Germany, prisons are special economic zones: wages of less than 2 euros per hour, no social security payments and not labour unions, but state subsidies and a workforce particularly flexible to employ – because in Hesse as in another eleven Länder, an obligation to work is imposed on the prisoners.
