Solidarity: Wage Theft under Palm Trees

FAU Berlin declares its solidarity with the employees of the Botanical Gardens of Berlin (Botanischer Garten Berlin), a subsidiary company of the Free University of Berlin (Freie Universität Berlin), who are fighting against wage theft. The colleagues are paid a wage clearly below the respective collective bargaining agreement (according to the labour union Verdi, they are – depending on their work place – paid from 55 to 86 percent less than the collective agreement for regional employees prescribes); additionally, union activity is being disturbed. On August 28, 2015 conciliation proceedings took place in the Berlin labour court; the hearing was about one case out of 28 lawsuits over wages against the Botanical Gardens of Berlin.
For purposes of documentation, FAU Berlin publishes (in German only) a report on the conciliation proceedings which was written by a member of the “Berlin initiative against labour injustice”; the latter having conjointly with Verdi called for solidarity with the employees fighting back.
