Swedish School Berlin: International Action Day Against Dismissals!

Published on Oct 16, 2014 Tags: , ,
„The Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not unionize!” With this slogan, FAU Berlin called labour unions and groups to protest in front of Swedish Church’s institutions against the dismissal of union militants by the Swedish School Berlin. This international action day saw at least 15 actions. In Berlin too, on Sunday morning before the mass, 20 unionists gathered in front of the Swedish Church and demanded both militants’ reintegration.

The conflict started with the dismissal of the whole staff – step by step, all colleagues were rehired, except for a teacher and an educator who both are unionized in FAU. Since then, FAU Berlin struggles for the colleagues’ reintegration, and from the beginning of this campaign, FAU Berlin got solidarity and support from abroad.

The action day itself saw protest pickets held in Sweden, were the syndicalist youth organisation SUF and the syndicalist union SAC organized actions in several cities. Solidarity actions were, too, held in Rotterdam by Vrije Bond (“The Free Band”) and in Vienna by Wiener ArbeiterInnen Syndikat (“Vienna Workers’ Syndicate”).

On October 17th, the first court ruling against the dismissals is expected. Nevertheless, beside the juridical confrontation, FAU Berlin will continue public protest. For an injury to unionists in an enterprise, is an injury to all union militants.
