Service workers at Humboldt University Library fight authoritarian supervisors who ordered nonsensical work during the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.

Update:

In the meantime, the staff council of the student employees has published a statement of solidarity!

The conflicts in the service area of the university library (UB) Jakob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum (GZ) of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) do not stop. The employees were first underpaid for years under the wrong collective bargaining agreement as student assistants - and after the change in the collective bargaining agreement, their activities were formally restricted so seriously that they can be paid according to the lowest possible pay group. [1] The responsible university staff council (PR HSB) had waved through these job descriptions instead of taking the opportunity to review and correct the pay of the rest of the university library staff in addition to the correct classification of the service staff. [2]
In addition to this structural conflict over proper pay, however, service workers also struggle with authoritarian supervisors who ordered nonsensical work during the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic. This forced colleagues to travel to work more often than absolutely necessary, putting themselves and others at risk of infection. [3] The dispute over the distribution of working hours continues to this day. Whereas under the old collective agreement service workers were free to distribute their working hours as they wished, under the new collective agreement this was arbitrarily extended to a minimum attendance period of three days. Since service staff generally work just under ten hours a week, this means that they are expected to work at least three times a week for just over three hours each time. The distribution of the ten hours would also be possible on more, but not on fewer days, because the work to be performed is "cognitively too strenuous", according to the management of the department. Mind you, these are supposedly simple tasks, paid according to pay grade E3 and performed by mostly academically educated people.
Now, a large part of the colleagues has organized and written to the newly elected staff council HSB at the end of 2020, in the hope that this new old body will stand up for the employees.
The Humboldt University Workers' Group declares its solidarity with the colleagues in the service area and documents the anonymous letter to the Staff Council for Higher Education (PR HSB).
