Militant PhD-Employees` Inquiry
In the upcoming first hearing, the TU could take the opportunity to change this impression by finally taking responsibility and following our claims. We demand that the university management starts to care about the working and health conditions of their employees.
No matter what the outcome of the hearing will be, the Education Section of FAU Berlin will enforce its engagement to improve working conditions in academia. The case of our comrades and its repercussions show that there is an urgent need for solidarity and independent organizations at the universities.
In our struggle for better conditions we encounter at least two major obstacles. First of all, there is no serious federal organization carrying about labor related issues of the nearly 30,000 people doing a doctorate in Germany. Secondly, even though the labor force of PhD-Employees is crucial for the research business, their efforts are not valued according to the professional skills they demonstrate.
To face those problems, some supporting comrades have drawn up a militant inquiry that aims to raise awareness and to present possible counter-strategies.
